Ingredients

For the marinade

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce Use gluten-free soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust to taste.

For cooking

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined Thaw if using frozen shrimp.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For cooking.
  • 2 green onions sliced For garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Whisk together until well blended.
  • Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover with plastic wrap and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours for more flavor.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
  • Remove the shrimp from the marinade, letting excess liquid drip off. Place shrimp in the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until they turn pink and start to caramelize.
  • Turn the shrimp over and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until cooked through and slightly charred. Optionally, pour in remaining marinade during the last minute to create a glaze.
  • Remove from heat and transfer shrimp to a shallow dish. Garnish with sliced green onions.

Notes

Serve over rice or noodles to soak up the sauce. Add steamed vegetables for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat gently to avoid overcooking the shrimp.
