  • 1 head Napa cabbage Fresh, to allow for easy rolling.
  • 1 pound ground meat (beef, pork, or turkey) Choose your preferred type of meat.
  • 1 cup cooked rice Any variety of rice can be used.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Adds flavor to the filling.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances the flavor.
  • 1 can (15 oz) marinara sauce To cover the rolls before baking.
  • 1 teaspoon salt To season the filling.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper To season the filling.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Adds herbal flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully remove the leaves from the Napa cabbage head and blanch them in boiling water for about 2 minutes until softened.
  • In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
  • In a bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf, roll tightly, and secure with toothpicks if needed.
  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish and cover with the remaining marinara sauce.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven, let sit for a few minutes, then serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm with additional marinara sauce, crusty bread, or a salad. Top with grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor. For spicier rolls, consider adding red pepper flakes to the meat mixture. Substitute ground meat with mushrooms or lentils for a vegetarian option.
