  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • as needed optional creamy frosting
  • as needed optional green food coloring For a festive look.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a baking pan.
  • In a saucepan, combine the Irish stout and unsalted butter over medium heat until melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and vanilla extract.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool completely before adding frosting if desired. Decorate with green food coloring for a festive touch.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Refrigerate for a week or freeze for up to three months. Wrap well to avoid freezer burn.
