  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes Can use store-bought for convenience.
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (optional) Can substitute with fresh vegetables.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional) Cheddar, mozzarella, or feta work well.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  • Add ground beef, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, mixed vegetables (if using), salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook for 5 minutes.
  • Pour beef mixture into a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Top with mashed potatoes, smoothing the surface.
  • Sprinkle cheese on top if desired.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a creamier mashed potato topping, mix in a little butter or sour cream. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator or frozen for 2-3 months.
