  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined.
  • Add the lime juice, lime zest, and salt, and beat until fluffy and smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more lime juice or heavy cream if needed.
  • Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in the refrigerator for later use.

Notes

For added flavor, consider mixing in some coconut extract. This creates a tropical buttercream that pairs wonderfully with lime. Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Let it come to room temperature and mix well before reusing.
