Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour Basic pantry staple
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast Or active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt For seasoning
  • 1.5 cups Warm water Around 110°F (43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil or melted butter For moisture and flavor
  • 4 cloves Minced garlic or garlic powder Add more for extra flavor
  • 1 cup Grated parmesan Freshly grated preferred for better melting

Optional Additions

  • 2 tablespoons Parsley Chopped fresh
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper To taste
  • 1 teaspoon Red pepper flakes For heat, optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, yeast, salt, minced garlic, and grated parmesan.
  • Gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing until you form a shaggy dough.
  • Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until puffy, about 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on parchment paper. Let it rest while the oven heats.

Baking

  • Bake the loaf for 25 to 35 minutes, until deep golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle additional parmesan before serving.
  • Let it cool at least 15 minutes before slicing to avoid a gummy texture.

Notes

For best results, avoid adding too much flour during mixing to prevent a dense loaf. Use freshly grated parmesan for stronger flavor and better melting. Allow cooling before slicing for ideal texture.
