  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • Fresh lettuce leaves Rinse and dry before using.
  • Sliced pickles
  • Zesty sauce (such as remoulade or a spicy mayo) Choose based on preference.
  • Bread (such as sourdough or a hamburger bun) Experiment with different types of bread.

Preparation

  • Slice the green tomatoes and season them with salt and pepper.
  • Dip each tomato slice into buttermilk, then dredge in cornmeal to coat.

Frying

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry the tomato slices until golden brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Drain on paper towels.

Assembly

  • Assemble the sandwich by layering fried green tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and zesty sauce between slices of bread.

Notes
