Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dr Pepper
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is softened for easier mixing.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk Do not skip the buttermilk; it adds moisture and richness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a saucepan, combine Dr Pepper, cocoa powder, and butter. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the chocolate mixture, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. It's fantastic on its own, but you can enhance it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. For extra flair, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top or drizzle with chocolate syrup. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Freeze for up to three months, thawing in the fridge before serving. Experiment with different flavors using other sodas like cherry cola or root beer.
