Ingredients
  

For the casserole

  • 8 slices slices of bread Use day-old or slightly stale bread for best texture.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Can use Swiss or cheddar.
  • 1 cup diced ham Can swap for other deli meats.
  • 1 cup diced turkey Can swap for other deli meats.
  • ¼ cup maple syrup Use for adding sweetness.
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Powdered sugar for serving Optional, for dusting.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer half of the bread slices in the baking dish, then top with ham, turkey, and cheese.
  • Pour half of the egg mixture over the layers.
  • Add the remaining bread slices, then pour the rest of the egg mixture on top.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes to soak in.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown and set in the middle.
  • Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm dusted with powdered sugar. Pair with fresh fruit or a green salad. Can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
