Ingredients
  

Puff Pastry and Filling

  • 1 package puff pastry, thawed Make sure the pastry is fully thawed before use.
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, finely chopped You can use pre-sliced mushrooms for convenience.
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded Substitutes can include mozzarella, Swiss, or feta.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Used for sautéing.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the garlic. Cook until fragrant.
  • Add the mushrooms and cook until they are softened and any liquid has evaporated. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into squares.
  • Place a spoonful of the mushroom mixture and a small amount of Gruyere cheese in the center of each square.
  • Fold the pastry over to form triangles or rectangles and seal the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with beaten egg.

Baking

  • Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

These bites are best when served warm and can be paired with a simple dipping sauce like a light aioli or marinara. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for optimal crispness.
