  • 2 slices slices of bread Choose your favorite type of bread.
  • ½ cup gouda cheese, shredded Gouda provides a rich, creamy flavor.
  • 1 small apple, thinly sliced Use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best results.
  • Butter or margarine for spreading For buttery flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adds extra flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.

Cooking

  • Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  • Layer half of the gouda cheese on top of the bread.
  • Add the apple slices on top of the cheese and season with a little salt and pepper.
  • Top with the remaining gouda cheese and place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
  • Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden brown, then flip carefully and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese melts.
  • Remove from heat, slice in half, and enjoy warm.

Notes

Serve with a side of soup, salad, or crunchy pickles. It's best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated.
